Kathy Maskell — Organist and Pianist
Kathy Maskell, a lifelong church musician, has a varied and rich musical background. She studied organ with Donald Willing at New England Conservatory and piano with Bob Winter, pianist with the Boston Pops. She received her Bachelor of Music degree from Berklee College of Music and a Masters of Music Education degree from Boston University. Kathy has been a highly successful piano instructor both in her home studio and in the many years she owned and directed MusicWorks, Inc. a commercial music education facility offering lesson in piano, voice, guitar, strings and drums.
Her interest in music technology has led her to give presentations on the subject at national conferences for both Music Teachers National Association and the National conference on Keyboard Pedagogy. Her music technology articles have been published in Clavier Companion, a periodical for piano teachers. Since 2003 Kathy has been adjunct professor at Regis College in Weston, MA teaching piano classes, music theory, keyboard ensemble and several independent studies with students interested in vocal arranging and counterpoint. Kathy has been organist and pianist here at Old Cambridge Baptist Church since 2003 also, happily returning to collaborate with Thomas Jones after their tenure at Tremont Temple Baptist Church. With her background in technology, Kathy aids the OCBC choir with rehearsal compact disks as they prepare for special holiday services. The choir has performed her composition "Send Down Your Spirit" written for choir and piano. Her background in composition and arranging has given her opportunities to write original music for keyboard ensembles and most recently incidental music for the children's book "Gwendolyn the Graceful Pig" by David Rottenberg. Kathy continues to explore musical opportunities to enhance her musicianship and to benefit her students.
